Dean Heritage Centre

enjoying the view

Nestled in five acres of the scenic Forest of Dean is an old mill – a special place to explore the story of the forest and its people. Discover how the Romans turned the area into an iron-producing power, share in Royal Medieval Hunts and uncover how Nelson helped to save the Forest from destruction.

With plenty to do and see, including  5 onsite galleries, a reconstructed Victorian cottage, a charcoal burner’s camp, a recreated free mine, a working beam engine, an adventure playground, a variety of animals and an onsite café; it’s a great day out for all the family!

Exciting events bring history to life with festivals and activities inspired by the Forest. Demonstrations, hands-on workshops, guided walks and theatre make for a memorable visit.

Children become woodland warriors, gaining badges for completing trails and activities.
