Gloucester City Museum & Art Gallery

Gloucester City MuseumA wealth of artefacts await you at this first-class museum, covering such diverse subjects as archaeology, fine art, science and history. For example, you will find The Rufus Sita tombstone, the Birdlip Mirror, the oldest complete backgammon set in the world, not to mention dinosaurs, local wildlife and a superb art collection featuring work by Turner and Gainsborough. Further displays showcase remarkable collections of antique furniture, glass, ceramics, and silver.

The full story of Gloucester's history is played out through the permanent galleries, but there is, of course, a full programme of temporary exhibitions highlighting fresh and exciting topics, in addition to regular events and drop in activities.

During half term and other holidays, extra special family focussed activities are added to the already packed calendar, including, amongst other things, making roman paper dolls, fabric painting, colouring, making murals, and designing and making toys and masks!
