The Museum in the Park, Stroud
Set in beautiful parkland (where you might recognise some unusual trees
not native to the county) is a rather grand 17th Century Mansion House
which currently houses colourful and varied displays celebrating the
rich and diverse history of the Stroud District. Particular highlights
include:
- The worlds first ever lawn mower, invented by Edwin Budding in 1830
- The daring 'Dusley Pederson' bicycle from the 1890s
- A stunning oil painting of a view of Wallbridge showing the new canal and famous Stroud cloth drying in the fields
An
extension to the Mansion House provides a fabulous space for
exhibitions and events, of which there are many running all through the
year- from talks and tours, to art exhibitions and plays, to craft
activities and special drop-in sessions for families in school holidays.
There really is something for everyone, so why not come along and be amazed and inspired!
